Jomsom Muktinath Trek is an exciting trek in the Annapurna and Mustang regions of Nepal. The trek begins in Kathmandu with the tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The trekking trail follows the world’s deepest gorge ‘Kali Gandaki’, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain view.

Itinerary

Day 01 - Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1345 m)

Day 02 - Pre-Trip Meeting and Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley

Day 03 - Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m), 6-7 hrs drive

Day 04 - Pokhara to Tirkhedhunga (1495m) via Nayapul (1070m), one and half hour drive; 5-6 hrs trek

Day 05 - Tirkhedhunga to Ghorepani (2850m), 6hrs trek

Day 06 - Ghorepani to Tatopani (1190m) accompanying Hike around Poonhill (3210m), 5-6 hrs trek

Day 07 - Tatopani to Ghasa(2110m), 5-6 hrs trek

Day 08 - Ghasa to Marpha (2680m) via Tukuche (2560m), 4-5 hrs

Day 09 - Marpha to Kagbeni (2810m), 4 hrs

Day 10 - Kagbeni to Muktinath (3710m), 4hrs

Details

Day 01 - Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1345 m)

Our Airport representatives will receive you at the airport. We will then transfer you to your respective hotels. You will have the rest of the day free to explore Kathmandu as you please. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02 - Pre-Trip Meeting and Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley

In the morning after having breakfast, we will be going for the sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu Valley. The Kathmandu Valley is known or its rich art, architecture and culture. The valley has a large number of UNESCO world heritage sites. We will be visiting some of the beautiful Buddhist sites like Boudhanath Stupa and Swoyambhunath Stupa. A visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square and walk on its stone alleys will make you feel like you have travelled centuries back in time. The diverse culture and rich art of the Kathmandu Valley will amaze you in every way. Later in the afternoon, we will begin our preparation for our trekking. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03 - Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m), 6-7 hrs drive

Early morning (around 7 AM) drive by tourist bus to Pokhara through the beautiful countryside and following down steam of Trishuli River. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 04 - Pokhara to Tirkhedhunga (1495m) via Nayapul (1070m), one and half hour drive; 5-6 hrs trek

After early breakfast, we will drive to Naya Pul by private vehicle via the large village of Lumle and walk for about 20 minutes to Birethanti, a large and prosperous town. The trail follows the main street of Birethanti, going through bamboo forests and pass along large waterfall and swimming hole. Beyond a pasture used by pony caravans, the trail reaches Ramghai where we will have lunch. After our lunch, the trail climbs gradually up the side of the valley, reaching Tikhe Dhunga. Overnight stay at lodge in Tirkhedhunga.

Day 05 - Tirkhedhunga to Ghorepani (2850m), 6hrs trek

From Tikhe Dhunga, the trail crosses a stream on a suspension bridge near the camp site at Tikhe Dhunga. The trail ascends a steep stone staircase to the large Magar community village of Ulleri at 2080m. Above the village, the trail climbs gently through pastures and cultivated fields. There is a camp site for a rest and water stop one hour’s walk above Ulleri. The trail crosses two sparkling streams before making a short, final climb to Nangethanti where we stop for lunch. Thanti is a Nepali word meaning “rest house”. In the winter, the trail can be covered with snow. From Nangethanti, we will climb to Ghorepani at 2850m, from here we can see the amazing panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Tukuche Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna I (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m) and Tarke Kang (7193m). Day 06 - Ghorepani to Tatopani (1190m) accompanying Hike around Poonhill (3210m), 5-6 hrs trek

We will get up for an early hike around Poon Hill. From here, we will see a superb view of the sunrise and a panoramic view of the Himalaya, including Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail, and others. After visiting Poonhill, we will come back to Ghorepani, have a hot breakfast, and continue our walk to Tatopani. Overnight stay at guesthouse in Tatopani.

Day 07 - Tatopani to Ghasa(2110m), 5-6 hrs trek

The trek now starts up the Kali Gandaki valley, which is one of the deepest gorge in the world. Here, we will enjoy a beautiful day’s walking along the Kali Gandaki riverside, gradually ascending into sub-tropical vegetation. We will cross the Bhalu Khola on a high suspension bridges before arriving at Dana (1450m). Around 30 minutes from Dana we will see a very high waterfall: Rupse Chhahara (which translates as “beautiful waterfall”). From there, we will continue through the steepest and narrowest part of the Kali Gandaki valley, where much of the route is cut through solid rock. We will cross the river again on a 120m long bridge to the east side. We will continue our journey towards Ghasa, an ethnic Thakali village and this marks the southernmost limit of Tibetan Buddhism in the valley. Overnight stay at guest house in Ghasa.

Day 08 - Ghasa to Marpha (2680m) via Tukuche (2560m), 4-5 hrs

We ascend on a steep trail through a forest to the Lete Khola (stream). After walking further, we reach the Lete village. Next, we continue our trek on a trail east of the river and reach Larjung Village. On our trek, we will also see beautiful apple orchards and vegetable farms. Marpha is known in Nepal for its delicious and eye-catching apples. Overnight stay in Marpha.

Day 09 - Marpha to Kagbeni (2810m), 4 hrs

From Marpha, we trek on a trail that clings to a valley. We ascend gradually on a ridge and reach Jomsom Village. From here we trek to the north towards Kagbeni, up the Kali Gandaki River which is the deepest gorge in the world. It gets windy after walking a while so it’s important to walk carefully at a steady pace. We pass through Eklebhatti village and continue towards Kagbeni. From Kagbeni, we get great views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peaks. Overnight stay in Kagbeni.

Day 10 - Kagbeni to Muktinath (3710m), 4hrs

Ascending almost 1000 meter, we will reach Muktinath which is also an important pilgrimage place for both Hindu and Buddhist. We will first walk through Khingar (3400m) and then onto Jharkot (3500m), which is an impressive fortress like village. We will continue our way to the first part of Muktinath which is known as Ranipauwa, where we will stay the night. There will be time to explore the area and see some of the holy Hindu places like an eternal flame coming from natural gas next to a spring which is considered holy as well. Overnight stay at Guest house in Muktinath.

Day 11 - Muktinath to Jomsom (2713m), 6hrs

Following a different route from the path we started, we will continue with easy day walking but can be tedious if we are unlucky to get the strong winds. From Muktinath to Jomsom, we will see the people of Mustang, a restricted area to the north, who usually come to sell handicrafts to pilgrims. Among their merchandise is the highly-revered mollusk fossil called shaligram. We will pass some ancient caves and see the impressive White Mountain that is the Dhaulagiri. We also transit at the significant town of Kagbeni, which is at a junction of two rivers kali gandaki and jhong river including north-south and east-west trading routes. Overnight stay at guest house in Jomsom.

Day 12 - Fly to Pokhara (910m), 20 mins flight

Fly back to Pokhara and spend the remaining day at leisure, relaxing, and maybe enjoying the sightseeing around Pokhara valley. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 13 - Pokhara to Kathmandu, 6-7 hrs drive

Early drive back to Kathmandu by tourist bus as we pass through sub-tropical scenery for about 6-7 hrs. Upon arrival, we will transfer to your hotel. After dinner, interaction and farewell.

Day 14 - Departure transfer to Airport

At about 3 hours prior to your flight time, we will transfer you to the airport to fly your onward destination.
